Jake Ellis

Jake is a well sought after specialist in matrimonial finance, Schedule 1 Children Act, TOLATA/cohabitation, and Inheritance Act disputes.

Jake’s experience with TOLATA/cohabitation and Inheritance Act disputes has led to his position as the Head of the Business, Property and Probate Team.

Jake has also been recognised as a leading junior in matrimonial finance in the Legal 500 and Chambers & Partners.

Jake’s focus is on ensuring the best, most cost effective outcomes for his clients and to this end, he is acutely aware of the benefits of alternative dispute resolution in reaching those ends.

Jake is routinely instructed to act for clients in all forms of NCDR, including round table meetings, mediations, private FDRs/early neutral evaluations, and arbitrations.

Jake’s experience lends itself to acting as a Private FDR evaluator in matrimonial financial, Schedule 1 Children Act, and TOLATA/cohabitation disputes as it enables him to provide expert assistance in the resolution of said disputes.

Jake advises and represents clients in financial relief proceedings from pre-issue to final hearings and is regularly instructed to assist and represent clients attempting alternative methods such as conferences/discussions and private FDR’s.

Jake has experience across the broad spectrum of financial remedy cases but has a particular expertise in cases which include disputes involving trusts, business/commercial interests, inherited wealth and farming assets.

Jake is available to put his specialist knowledge to use as a private FDR judge.

As the Head of the Business, Property and Probate Team, Jake’s finance and property practice extends to complex disputes between unmarried couples pursuant to the Trusts of Land and Appointment of Trustees Act 1996 as well as claims arising out of the Inheritance (Provision for Family & Dependants) Act 1975.

Jake represents clients in arbitration for civil and finance matters.

W v H (2026) – Represented the wife in a farming case where the total asset base was worth c. £5.2 million.

H v W (2025) – represented the husband in a case involving businesses, investments and other capital assets worth c. £2.252 million.

W v H (2025) – represented the wife in a farming case with a total assets base of c. £6.75 million.

H v W (2024) – represented the husband in case involving a business, investments and other capital assets worth c. £2 million.

Arbitration:

H v W (2024) – represented the husband in a case featuring issues of pre-marital contributions and needs.
